Oxford, Ohio, October 13, 2016 – Today, the Miami community, alumni, and general public celebrates the re-opening of the newly updated Miami University Shideler Hall, designed by BHDP Architecture, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception. Events also include a guided building tour, student research poster sessions, and keynote speakers throughout the day.
Renovations to 67,000 sf Shideler Hall, originally built in 1967, provide state-of-the-art office, teaching, research, and collaboration spaces for the Geography, Geology, and Environmental Earth Sciences (GEES), and Institute for the Environment and Sustainability (IES) programs. A 30,000 sf expansion on the east side of the building offers a more prominent presence for the building upon entry from the east, serving as a new eastern gateway into the Oxford campus.
“As a Miami alum, who’s first architectural course was taught in Shideler Hall, the transformation that took place within and without is nothing short of amazing!” said Tom Sens, higher education client leader with BHDP Architecture. “The new addition serves as an iconic entry onto campus, with the labs, geology museum, instructional spaces, and collaboration areas offering students and faculty with inspirational places to do great things!”
“The [Shideler Hall] project has exceeded our expectations,” said Chris Makaroff, Miami Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “It is a highly functional and valuable teaching, research and collaboration space for our faculty, students and staff that is also a beautiful building. We highlight this facility when recruiting talented students interested in research, as well as when recruiting new faculty and staff.”
