The college had big plans for the new building. They wanted it to have a timeless design that would last the next 30 years, as well be a model for other academic libraries across the country.

The completed design transformed Columbus Hall into a warm and welcoming facility for both current students and future generations. A new entry/amphitheater extends the library to the outdoors, where students often sit to read and study. A new glass enclosed staircase not only adds a striking element to the building’s architecture, but also helps manage noise. The library has become a key destination for students, who now flock to the library to study, relax or just view the current artwork on display.

“Collaboration is an often overused term, but in this project collaboration became real. There was no one project designer. It was a total team effort, total team vision, and total team success from beginning to end.” Tom Sens, BHDP Higher Education Client Leader
