Early meetings with university planners and future occupants built master plan expectations for welcoming passers-by into the heart of engineering and focused on student needs. Individual interest groups were encouraged to look past current needs with regard to the design and focus on long-term capabilities or flexibility. Periodic review sessions during the planning phase maintained consensus and enthusiasm, so that very few changes in space assignment were needed when the complex was occupied several years later.
