The new lab is currently utilized for battery testing and was designed to be flexible in order to adapt to new functions/activities or house entirely different user groups in the future. The lab includes a large open bay area for graduate students to work and collaborate.
Renovations included the complete interior demolition of existing lab space and new access from the enhanced corridor. Safety was critical to the design due to daily exposure to toxic and flammable materials. A new exhaust duct was routed through the building to the 8th floor roof to allow for proper ventilation, a new tank closet is provided adjacent to the lab with exterior access, and new windows were provided in the lab to allow for more natural light and views to campus.
