R&D Lab Renovation
01 Challenge
The Confidential Food and Beverage Manufacturer enlisted BHDP to deliver a best-in-class research and development facility at their Atlanta-based Technical Engineering Center (TEC). Our challenge was to bridge the gap between the laboratory spaces and the client's global brand and workplace standards, integrating them into a unified, agile work environment where innovation, collaboration, and cutting-edge research thrive.
02 Solution
BHDP took a holistic approach to the renovation, focusing on the overall project scope and the needs of lab users. We implemented a standard parti, or design framework, across every floor for consistency and flexibility through the lab module and future-proofed utilities to serve the lab as it evolves. This parti opened the floor to allow visual connection through the labs, office space, and exterior views, and different office zones allow for a balance of collaboration and quiet work.

The renovations have provided the client with a flexible, future-ready space that supports both their current needs and future growth. The open, integrated design encourages collaboration and innovation, allowing researchers to seamlessly work across lab and office spaces.

Teaming Up for a Smooth Transition
Extensive collaboration with the client's researchers and scientists during the concept phase ensured the design met technical requirements and long-term flexibility. This partnership was key to creating a design both owners and users supported. To minimize disruption during renovation, we employed a staggered approach, working closely with the client to create swing spaces and maintain operations across the TEC building, ensuring a smooth transition and uninterrupted workflow.

Creating Wellness in the Workplace
The addition of a common space and wellness room on each R&D floor provides the researchers with space equity, elevating their work environment to match the wellness and space standards of the broader campus. This thoughtful inclusion promotes productivity and well-being, ensuring the researchers have a balanced and supportive environment.
