Regional Impact Campus

01 Challenge

In 2022, Easterseals Redwood (ESRW) set out to bring many of its services under one roof and deepen its connection with the local community. They identified a former YMCA facility directly behind their current fulfillment center in Cincinnati’s Walnut Hills neighborhood—a disconnected structure with untapped potential. The challenge: infill the space between to connect their existing building to the former YMCA building and transform the outdated buildings into a welcoming, fully accessible campus that unified internal programs and became a trusted, recognizable resource for the surrounding community.

02 Solution

BHDP led a collaborative visioning process to reimagine the building’s role as a centralized home for Easterseals Redwood’s diverse programs and as a vibrant, outward-facing presence in Walnut Hills. The redesign transformed the site into a flexible, multi-use environment supporting adult daycare services, workforce development, and administrative functions. Embracing universal design, the new layout fosters collaboration, strengthens staff engagement, and invites community connection through inclusive, welcoming spaces.

Klekamp Family Military and Veterans Center

At the heart of the new campus is the Klekamp Family Military and Veterans Center, a 7,000-SF facility offering comprehensive support services—from mental health and legal aid to housing and employment assistance. Thoughtfully designed to honor service and foster belonging, the space features a ceremonial rotunda with a “missing man” table, multipurpose gathering areas, and classrooms to meet the diverse needs of veterans and their families.

Employment Services

In addition to Easterseals Redwood’s Packaging, Fulfillment, and Logistics Center—which supports partners like Medpace and Thermo Fisher while providing hands-on training and employment for individuals with disabilities, veterans, and economically disadvantaged adults—the facility also houses construction career training. Our team transformed a former gym into a teaching workshop tailored for accessibility, durability, and real-world instruction in the building trades.
