01 Challenge
Fifth Third Bank sought to establish a new banking center in Charlotte's Historic West End, known for its rich culture and strong community identity. The challenge was twofold: create a branch that delivers complete financial services while honoring and incorporating the neighborhood's unique heritage. The goal was to design a welcoming space representative of the Historic West End's past, present, and future.
02 Solution
The 1,900-SF branch provides modern banking services, including a remote teller station, drive-thru capabilities, and ATM access, while celebrating the identity of the surrounding neighborhood. A local artist, with the help of students from a local high school, designed a mural for the building’s exterior, incorporating elements that reflect the West End and supporting BHDP’s goal of weaving the area’s heritage into the branch’s overall design.
