Miami University's state-of-the-art McVey Data Science building officially opened its doors to students. The building was designed to be a hub for cross-disciplinary research, a forum for industry partners to connect, and a space for teaching, student activities, and increased collaboration.

The three-story, 92,000-SF building features cutting-edge features like an XR stage, VR track, cyber security lab, and robotics lab. BHDP served as the Architect of Record for this project.

"At BHDP, we strive to design places of learning and discovery that inspire thinkers, leaders, and professionals. The unveiling of Miami University's new McVey Data Science building exemplifies this commitment, providing students with a cutting-edge environment that fosters innovation and creativity," said Alejandro J. Medina, Senior Architect on the project.

He continued, "My favorite part of this project was getting to know the client needs for each space and generating unique experiences to enhance their research. One of the coolest spaces is the XR (eXtended Reality) Stage, where they are performing cutting-edge research on how filming is done. We had to coordinate with various specialty consultants and with the lead researchers themselves to understand the technology and design space around it."

The university plans to unveil the $58 million McVey Data Science building in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 14 at 6 p.m.
